David Garrett performs in Sofia and Varna in March

The famous violinist visits Bulgaria with his classical program ICONIC

David Garrett comes to our country with a classical program and a new album. After his successful "Alive" tour in 2022 with 32 concerts in 11 countries, which also passed through Sofia, the famous violinist opens a new chapter with ICONIC. His concerts are on March 5 and 6 in Sofia and Varna.

The tour features the new classical album ICONIC, released in November 2022, inspired by legendary fiddlers whose tunes thrilled Garrett as a child. The music of Bach, Dvořák, Gluck, Kreisler, Mendelssohn and Schumann are just some of the names we will hear in a new arrangement. David Garrett presents them in concert for the first time in a trio of violin, guitar and bass.

David Garrett's personal choice of music recalls the golden era of violin virtuosos, when performers such as Zino Francescati, Arthur Grummio, Jascha Heifetz, Fritz Kreisler and Yehudi Menuhin delighted audiences with popular miniatures and exquisite melodies. They arouse the admiration of the young musician to this day. Immersing himself in their timeless records and following their model, Garrett created his ICONIC program.

"Unfortunately, in recent decades many violinists have stopped performing some of these short, memorable works that the great violinists of the 1920s and 1930s included in their recitals." says David. "That's why it means even more to me that I now have the opportunity to give new life to all these beautiful pieces."

"Works like these shaped my musical thinking," says the violinist. "I myself have recorded many virtuoso albums, but this time it was very important for me to get closer to the essentials, to what really speaks to the heart. ICONIC works are not exactly for virtuosos. They have great melodies that bring listeners closer to what really matters in life – harmony,” says Garrett.

David Garrett began playing the violin at the age of four. Made his stage debut when he was ten years old and became the youngest artist ever signed to Deutsche Grammophon just three years later. By his mid-teens, he was building a stellar solo career and had recorded all twenty-four of Paganini's Caprices. He later enrolled at the world-famous Juilliard School in New York as one of Yitzhak Perlman's first students.

Over the past two decades, Garrett has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras and conductors and has reached new audiences around the world with concerts that include rock anthems, classical sonatas, film themes and solo miniatures. At the beginning of 2022 he publishes his autobiography "If only you knew" ("Wenn ihr wüsstet") telling about the rocky road he walked from a child prodigy to a world-famous musician.

Come hear David Garrett's classical program. His concerts are on March 5, 2024 in Sofia, Hall 1, NDK and on March 6, 2024 in Varna, DKC. Tickets are available in the Eventim network.
